The origin of the Tarot is the subject of much debate. It has been suggested that they were conceived in Egypt by the Egyptian God of Magic, Thoth. Others believe that they were conceived in China, India, or Ancient Greece. However the first mention of the Tarot as we know it, is in Italy during the fifteenth century.Tarot Reading is reflective of Astrology, Psychology and mythology. It consists of 78 cards that represents an archetype, that can help one learn about themselves and about their world. Therefore, studying Tarot can be a growing experience. The intricate cards of the major arcane show major events or turning points in one's life. The minor arcane show every day events in one's life. The original Tarot deck is divided into suits and trumps. The four suits are: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. These represent the four elements. Fire, Water, Air and Earth. They can also be said to represent the qualities of: Will, Intuition, Intellect and Physicality respectively. the twenty-two trump cards represent the four elements, the seven original planets, and the twelve astrological signs. Each of the suits is divided into court cards, i.e. Ace, King, Queen, Prince and Prices, and the numbered cards, each represents 10 degrees of the Zodiac, giving us the sum total of 360 degrees of the Zodiac. When timescale is important, one can choose a spread designed to reveal influences over a specific period of time, such as; The Week Ahead spread, or a "Year ahead" reading. They both operate in much the same way. First a card is dealt to represent each month of the "year ahead", then a central signification card is laid and the twelve "month" cards are placed around it in a circular form. Timescales can also be determined by the suit of the last minor arcane card drawn. Each minor arcane card has a value of time. Wand relate to weeks, Pentacles relates to years, Swords relate to months, and Cups indicate days, but only if a Pentacle card appears before it, otherwise it is disregarded. For example the Seven of Swords will represent a time scale of seven months. It is said that the reader of the Tarot cards should be the one handling the deck for the first seven days at lease, because the cards get used to the reader's energy.
